The off-grid mess

We started out day in the parking lot of Sinclair Gas Station and Larry’s Gourmet Coffee. We were a small crew, which was fine by me. Where we were going, it was hard to keep track of every Pig, and I wasn’t sure who we’d encounter.

After guzzling some yummy caffeinated hot beverages, we ventured under the bridge off Dayton Valley Road, where we found an interesting gentleman camping  in the gravel, burning guano-filled leaves, and telling tales of there being millions of dollars buried down there. He also claimed to know a very gross recipe for dope, made from things I will not type here, which he said he found hidden in the Bible. Apparently he tried to sell some of this home brew to other homeless we would meet later that day. I’m glad to say they didn’t buy any.

The smell of the man who claimed to be breaking bad under the bridge, will forever haunt me. I cannot describe it, but I found it extremely disturbing, as I kept him busy talking, while the volunteers cleaned up the area.

Eager to leave the smells and tall tales being told at DVR bridge, we headed up the mountain to another spot behind the cemetery water tower next to Gold Canyon. There, I spoke with a couple off-grid dudes I’ve met before. One of them gave me back some jumper cables he was given last time we saw him. I still need to figure out which Pig lent those.

Overall good run. We didn’t really transform any areas back to what they should be, but we did a little maintenance to ensure it’s not getting worse. People camping out in public areas, who have no trash or sewer services, make a stinky mess wherever they take up residence. Desert Pigs are not here to run them out, or to make their lives better. We keep it friendly, and offer to grab bags they pile up.
